Spring Showers Jacket in Shrimp

Spring Showers Jacket in Shrimp - Noodlehead Spring Showers Jacket in Shrimp - Noodlehead Spring Showers Jacket in Shrimp - NoodleheadSpring Showers Jacket in Shrimp - NoodleheadSpring Showers Jacket in Shrimp - Noodlehead It’s finally getting green here and I’m so happy to have finished this Spring coat for Natalie just in time, it’s the Spring Showers Jacket pattern by Elegance & Elephants. It’s still a little chilly in the mornings, so it’ll be a nice layer to have! I managed to squeak in time to make this one and another one for Emily (if you’ve been a reader for several year, you might remember I’ve already made one for Emily which she has finally outgrown). I was on such a roll with projects for market that it was easy to just keep going. More on the market stuff in my next post, I forgot I haven’t shared it here yet.

So I ordered up this beautiful Robert Kaufman Kobe twill in Shrimp. I love that name for this color. And it pairs perfectly with Leah Duncan‘s newest collection No Place Like Home for the lining. I did manage to not pay attention to the fabric width when I was ordering, but I managed to jig saw the pieces together just fine. The only piece I didn’t have room for was the zipper shield, but I managed to find a pink it my stash that works well enough. It’s nice that there are two shades of pink in the lining print, so I felt like it would work anyway.

I knew from the last time I made it that the zipper length was a bit long for the sizing. I shortened the zipper the first time I made one, but I was always worried that the repositioned zipper stops might fall off. So since I was just a smidge longer, I decided to roll the zipper back on itself. It actually is better than I thought it might be and the zipper pulls really smoothly. I call that good enough! I found some of the same drawstring at Joanns, and managed to buy out the last bit in our store. It’s a perfect size and color for this jacket I think! A few bits of scrap leather accents and its good to go. This is the largest size in the pattern and it’s nice and roomy. The hood is huge, so if I made it again, I would size it down. There’s a lot of nice topstitching that I didn’t want to pull out in order to fix it. I could have added a few more inches to the sleeves, but Natalie loves it and I love the way she looks in it so that’s all that matters. I love sewing things that get worn!!!

Kind of perfect that there was a little rain shower passing through during pictures!

I love this jacket–the color and cut are spot on. I wish I knew of a similar pattern in an adult size (plus).

I agree, Ann. I used to have an Old Navy barn jacket that I wore until it fell apart. This is just a touch more feminine, with the slightly more fitted waist and I LOVE that dipped hemline in the back. I’m going to search out an adult anorak and do a bit of tweaking. Hope I can find a decent pattern for one!

Beautiful jacket, and it’s obvious your daughter loves it! I noted your comment on having to reduce the size of the hood. I find that to be a problem with RTW jackets as well, and would love if you would post sometime how you modified the pattern to make the hood smaller.

    Love!!!
