Black + Blue Pathway Pillow

Black + Blue Pathway Pillow - Noodlehead Black + Blue Pathway Pillow - Noodlehead Today is the official release of the newest issue of Making magazine. It definitely carries a special place in my heart, and makes me so happy to be a small part of it all. Even though I don’t have a project included in this issue (next issue I do!), I couldn’t resist grabbing a few for my shop – in the process, keeping one for myself. I’m so glad I did, too.

Carrie has put together another amazing line up of gorgeous projects. And I hear ya if you’re not into knitting, but again, this issue has so many great sewing projects!!! Seriously, you have to check it out. There’s a bento bag, apron, kimono jacket (from my friend Jenny Gordy of Wiksten), embroidery, recipes and a couple really great articles to read.

As soon as I got mine cracked open, I got straight to work on the Pathway Pillow designed by none other than Amber Corcoran of Fancy Tiger Crafts. I was immediately drawn to the texture of the pillow and intrigued by its construction. Turns out it was a home run! Not only is the piecing interesting, but it’s easily adaptable for whatever size pillow or even a quilt. I dug through my pillow form stash (yes, that’s a thing) and pulled out this 12×24″ form. I always love a long pillow.

I used Essex in black and Flax with a splash of a blue denim from Kokka leftover from this project. I chose to put in an invisible zip instead of the envelope back, just personal preference especially for this size pillow. Long and narrow means getting squished out of shape all the time in this house, so invisible zip it is!

I was so excited about how this turned out. I looove making pillows and have really had to restrain myself from making a million and then having nowhere to sit. I’m glad this one feels right at home.

Not sure you can have too many cushions (though Mr R would disagree) especially when they are this stylish! Thank you for reminding me about the next issue of this gorgeous magazine

The latest issue is packed with projects and beautifully presented! I missed seeing your work in the latest issue, Anna. Nice to know you are up next round.

I too loved this pillow when I saw it in Making! Your pillow turned out beautifully. I was actually thinking of making a quilt using this pattern. I have a friend who loves the modern look and I thought this would be perfect. What are your thoughts on turning this pattern into a full sized quilt?

I love this version of the Pathway Pillow, one question for you, did you sew the invisible zipper in the seam at the bottom or along the middle of the back? Did you extent the seam allowances to enable sewing the inv zipper?

    1. Anna Graham says:

Hi Kerri, yes, the invisible zip is sewn into the bottom seam. If I recall, I added a little more to the top/bottom pieces to get the design centered on the pillow. Hope that makes sense! 🙂
