2 by 4 Quilt finished!

I kind of feel like a broken record saying that I’m so excited to share this finish! But I really am excited. This is the 2 by 4 quilt that I posted about a few weeks ago. It’s make using the Stash Design Star bundle I had curated late last year.

2 by 4 Quilt Finished! - NoodleheadAfter finishing the quilt top I basted it right away and then things got busy and I let it hang over my door for a few weeks while I contemplated how to quilt it. So it was perfect timing when my annual sewing retreat with friends was just around the corner. I like to be a sneaky retreat sewist and come with mostly finished projects. hehe. It’s actually really practical for me because I feel really accomplished and excited to move on to other projects so it’s a win-win!

So as I rushed out the door for the retreat I threw the basted quilt and a few binding options in the car and was on my way. At the retreat I was able to talk over some quilting options with my table mate Amanda Jean. Lucky for me! I even got to borrow her machine to do the quilting because my travel sewing machine isn’t the greatest at free motion quilting. I went with loops and it was pretty fun! I’ve done loops before in the past but it’s definitely been over a year or more. It’s fun and goes pretty fast, too. Despite the first rows being a bit rough, I’m happy with how it turned out.

The backing is one I’ve been hoarding for a while. It’s a wide back from Carolyn Friedlanders’s Doe collection that I just loooove. It’s the perfect geometric backing for this quilt and really contrasts well with the loop quilting. Also, the binding ended up being the perfect choice, it’s a chambray from Art Gallery Fabrics that I really love.

Pattern: 2 by 4 Quilt block tutorial from Film in the Fridge
Fabric: Stash Design Star Bundle, Doe wide back, and Art Gallery Denim Studio binding

Hope you have a great week!

I’m working on a 2by4 quilt, too, and plan/hope to finish piecing the top this weekend! I’m also going to my very first ever quilt retreat and am still pondering what project(s) to take with me, so I appreciate your commentary about how you handle the retreats you attend.
Anyone got their own retreat suggestions? I’m all ears!

Great quilt – love the colour palette, and your photos of completed projects are always so lovely too. I have been wanting to make this quilt for a while so I feel spurred on by your post to go and pull some fabric from my stash! And to learn to do loopy quilting too!
