Woven Hudson Pant

I’m super excited to share this finish today! I’ve had these woven Hudson pant on my to do list for so long. I’ve even had the fabric washed and pattern printed and set aside for months. The reason I got inspired to start them finally was when I had gotten a clothing catalog in the mail a week or so ago and spotted this jogger pant. I don’t know if it’s just the styling of them or what, but I immediately jumped on their website and was considering buying some until I saw the price. It’s a little spendy for something I wasn’t sure I would wear a ton, but they immediately reminded me of the Hudson pant and I figured why not try and sew a pair first?!

I took some of the ideas from that jogger pant and set out to finish some for myself. I used a knit for the cuff and waistband, but used the Brussel Washer Linen for the main parts. I added back patch pockets and followed Kelly’s tips for making a woven pair of Hudson’s. About halfway through I was totally questioning what the heck these would even look like on. Without the waistband it’s super hard to get an idea of the overall fit, but I continued on and trusted that things would work out. I’m glad I stuck with it and didn’t give up. It’s been a long while since I’ve made myself any pants! I really love them.

I’m so glad these are finished and I hope I get to wear them a bit. I like that they look a little more dressed up than if they were made of all knit, so I’m hoping that I can find more tops to pair with them. I think I definitely need a jean jacket! I did add about an 1 1/2″ to the length for which I am grateful that I remembered! I needed it.

These are on my to- do-list also. I have been eying Brussels linen. Curious about your opinion. How does it compare weight wise to Essex, does it need a lot of pressing after washing, does it fray etc? I want to do more garment sewing but need to learn more about fabrics that aren’t 100% cotton since up to now I have stuck with quilts and bags. PS I tried waxed canvas and love the bag you made.

Thanks Linda! It’s a garment fabric, so while I think the weight might be comparable to essex, the hand has a lovely drape, very fluid. The fabric content is 55% LINEN, 45% RAYON which is perfect for clothing. It does fray, but nothing extreme. After I washed it, it pressed very nicely and I think it’ll wear nicely as well. Hope that helps. 🙂

Anna, these are amazing!! So ironic, I was contemplating that same pair of joggers a couple weeks ago, but wAs also turned off by the price. I ended up getting a similar pair from Gap. 🙂 You were way more industrious though and I loooove these!

These look great! I’ve had this pattern forever, and after seeing yours I’m so excited to make some for myself! I have a couple quick questions – how many sizes did you go up to account for using woven instead of knit? And did you use the bigger size for the waist and ankle pieces also, or did you cut those pieces according to where you fell in the size chart? Hope that’s not too much to ask! Thanks for inspiring me 🙂

Thanks Carrie! I followed Kelly’s instructions for doing the woven and went up 2 sizes. I used the waist and ankle bands the same as what I would for my actual size. Hope that helps. 🙂

Hi! I see this post is a couple of years old now, but I’ve just gotten into sewing this past year and am stumbling across all of these wonderful sewing blogs. Quick question about the linen Hudson’s- is it possible to adjust the seam allowance for French seams? I’ve done skirts and pjs with French seams, but haven’t tried it on more fitted garments yet. Thank you for the wonderful post!

    1. Anna Graham says:

      I think that’s totally doable!
