Stitch Love Guinea Pig

Stitch Love Guinea Pig project

It’s summer and my girls and I are in full swing! It’s been a blast this past couple weeks and I’ve really enjoyed having them home! I had purchased the Stitch Love book by Mollie Johanson over a year ago and Natalie had picked out the guinea pig project right away. Of course it ended up getting put on the back burner for way too long. She did end up making a few things all on her own such as the fireflies and the Precious Possum project.

When she asked again about me helping her with the guinea pig project I had run out of excuses. Our local Hancock Fabrics is going out of business (so sad about that as I love digging through their bargain fashion fabrics) and that’s where to go for fleece! So we went and bought all our supplies – at a pretty good deal, plus picked up some more ‘essentials’. haha. Once we got home she went straight to it and got the templates cut out. She was able to mostly made it herself, I would start the first few stitches and then she continued on. I did end up sewing on the tongue because it was a little trickier, but other than that she did really well. She would ask for help now and then and I think that it ended up being the perfect project for her to try. Challenging enough to learn new skills, but nothing so difficult that she couldn’t follow through and finish. Natalie is super proud of it and her official name is Meadow.

We’re planning on helping Emily make one soon. Emily started a turtle tissue cozy that I hope we’ll get finished. I’d definitely recommend this book. My daughters both loved so many of the projects when we first flipped through. And I think it’s perfect for their ages, plus fun for me to help! I hadn’t ever made a plush animal before and I think the construction of it was super fun. We’ll be trying more for sure!

Cute! My daughter is near her age and we’ve worked on some similar projects together. I love hearing about how you worked with her to get it done. They are very capable making beautiful things with some patience and a tiny bit of help. I need to be better about planning projects like this and making time for them. Like you said, I tend to put off my kids projects ideas and it really doesn’t take that long to get them started. 🙂
