Umbrella Prints Rainbow Clutch

I love how this clutch turned out. The fabrics, of course, are some amazing prints by Umbrella Prints. I absolutely love their style and this color palette is so pretty. I love the tones and textures.

This is a fun project from my book, Handmade Style. I had sketched out this project many years ago and always hoped it would work as a project for my book. And luckily enough, it did! The front pocket is paper pieced, but don’t let that technique scare you off. This is a great simple one to help get you started. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to use your favorite small pieces of fabric. You can make sure to include exactly the part of the fabric you love when you paper piece – win, win!

The Essex Yarn Dyed linen is a perfect pairing with the fabrics. I don’t think I’ll ever not like it, the texture of the yarn dye is perfectly imperfect. Anyway, the clutch is a fun project. When I made this, in my rushed state, I did misplace the first piece and trimmed it off just a bit short of where I should have. Nothing a tiny little sliver of pieced fabric can’t fix. I think it’s pretty unnoticeable, thankfully. Gotta forgive yourself and move on, it happens!

Pattern: Rainbow Clutch from Handmade Style
Fabric: Umbrella Prints
Zippers: from my shop,
leather pulls, too

I sort of even have a bunch of scraps in a pile using these same subtle colors for a quilt. Not sure what direction it’s headed yet, but I’m excited about it, hoping it’ll land on my bed sometime this year!

Hope you had a good weekend!clutch7

beautiful! love the neutral colors. this is the first project from your book I got to make! So cute, and functional for me since i usually use a small purse like this. A great easy and fun project. I hope to make the wallet next 🙂

ok, I resisted until now, but there, I ordered the book, even if I am much more a quilter than a “sewer”, but I like bags and clutches and wallets and …… 🙂

So, Anna–I know that designers use pattern testers. Any chance you could use a bag tester? 🙂 I like each one better than the last! Congratulations on such a great collection!

I just love your book – I haven’t started making anything from it yet (currently making the Go anywhere tote). I just love your patterns (I’m bag and wallet obsessed) and the fabrics you used in this clutch are great! I love how you are making the same bags with different materials – it really helps to visualise how each bag changes with the fabrics used.

This is a great pattern, and Umbrella Prints fabrics seam to be perfect partners! I’ve sewed my first Rainbow Clutch a few weeks ago … as well with Umbrella Prints scraps!

I just purchased your book and fell in love with your patterns. I am a bit intimidated as I am more of a quilter (but haven’t used paper piecing before) I am just now getting into sewing… I am going to be working on the rainbow clutch this week, I hope all turns out well 🙂
