Geo Pop Box Totes

Ever since Shannon posted her free Box Tote Pattern I’ve wanted to make some. The other day Natalie and I were looking for something to sew and we picked out these super cheery fabrics and made two! I think I could make a dozen more, they’re so fun and quick, especially after you have everything cut and interfacing fused.

The colors in Geo Pop were just what was needed for a cold winter day here, it’s been so gray that these baskets warmed up the whole room. I think they’d be great for packing with a few goodies for a birthday present. So we’ll probably do that for the next party. I even busted out my hoarded Summersville by Lu Summers. It just looked too perfect.

The only tricky part is the last step of getting those curves sewn, but it went way more smoothly than I first thought it might. Just take your time, go slow and use lots of pins (although I almost tried glue basting, I think that would work well!).

Fabrics: Geo Pop Canvas by Emmie K. for Robert Kaufman Fabrics, Summersville by Lu Summers for Moda, linings are by Lizzy House and Carolyn Friedlander even though I didn’t get a really clear shot of the inside!

Definitely bright and happy, I bet these would make a great little tote for library books or those kid odds and ends that end up all over the house, haha. Very cute!

Very cute! I made one so far and have two more cut. I cheated on sewing the curves. I left the handle open at the top and sewed the curves while my pieces were inside out. I connected the handles at the top at the end. It creates a little seam at the top of the handle, but something I can live with if I can avoid doing the curved piecing! (I did do a topstitch around the curves for a nice finished look)

Thank you for the pattern link. I don’t know how I have not seen this one before. I love, love, love to make tote bags, purses, wristlets, etc.

Thank you for the link. Can always use a new tote bag. Your bags look like they were made for your girls.

I’ve been wondering how this bag would work with longer handles…I think it’s time to bust out the muslin and sew a practice piece!

They look so bright and cheery! I’ll have to try these. I might do something similar to what Sarah suggested and do a snap closure on the handles.

Sweet totes! I love Very Shannon’s Box Tote; I’ve made 4 thus far. I know whatcha mean about that last seam, stitching the lining and outer bag together. I found that basting a 1/4 ” seam all the way around the handles helps to make easy to turn under, Thanks for sharing Anna, your girls are too precious:)

Those look great!. When I made them, I used a ton of wonder clips and that really helped.

Super cute and so are your little helpers! Well, they’re not so little anymore!:) Cute pic!

I’d there a way to put these together without doing the curved seam like that? But somehow pull the bag through the lining like a typical bag?
