Marian Cowl

mariancowl4

I finished my first knitting project of the season – a Marian Cowl! I’m so happy it’s finished and not sitting in a yarn lump on one of my shelves.

Have you been knitting anything fun lately? I’d love to hear what you’re up to. Or maybe I should check out what’s going on Ravelry (find me @noodleheadsews)? I keep forgetting to do that.

This cowl was started sometime at the beginning of last year and I abandoned the project because I couldn’t figure out how to do the first twist part. I started again this year (thinking that I had a little more experience under my belt) and it happened again – couldn’t get the twist to happen. Well, third time was a charm and it worked awesome. Of course it doesn’t take much time at all to knit up using the extra bulky yarn, so I’m happy to have this one done!

mariancowl2It was supposed to be a Christmas present, but in my usual form, it’ll probably be gifted as soon as I see it’s recipient again. I just can’t wait that long! Plus it’s already freezing cold here, and dang, this one sure keeps a neck cozy.

Pattern: Marian Cowl by Jane Richmond
Yarn: Rasta (Oxido colorway) by Malabrigo – purchased from Eat Sleep Knit

  1. Thank you for the link! That would make great Christmas presents. Love the color you chose.

Marian is a great pattern, I’ve made two 🙂 I’m trying to work up the will to start a sweater, I just know that it will take me so long to make that it will be too warm to wear when I finish haha

Gorgeous Anna! And your hair is so pretty up like that!

  5. RAsta is so great! I made a cowl with it recently, and it’s wonderfully squishy

  6. Funny, I just accidentally twisted my cowl so I had to pull it all out. Haven’t started again yet. I wish it were part of that pattern! Yours looks great!

I’ve been on the lookout for a quick cowl pattern for Christmas gifts – this looks perfect! Love the idea of twisting as you go instead of seaming it together at the end. Thanks for sharing!

I have two hanks of Rasta to use up!! What size needle and how many stitches did you do?

    1. Anna says:

Hey Jen, I used the same as written in the pattern. 🙂

I’m knitting a pair of socks that is seeming to take forever—you know how you get into the middle of a project and you can’t even remember ever knitting anything else? I want to clear the decks so I can go on a mitten binge. There is something perfect about knitting lots of mittens when it’s really cold outside.

I watched the TV series “Outlander” and ever since have been on a chunky-knit cowl knitting spree. Laugh. Big needles, big yarn = fast knits & instant gratification!

I love the colour! I have had this on my ‘to knit ‘ list for too long, maybe this winter? I love your earrings to, so pretty.

    1. discodots says:

*too* it’s midnight and I think I need sleep!!!

  19. Recniky says:

Anna, I am wondering if you needed to have two skeins of the Rasta yarn or one. Could you let me know? Thank you! Jo

    1. Anna says:

I just used one! Was very happy with it, but you could definitely to more or cast on more stitches.

  20. Donna Baker says:

It is beautiful!!! Since you used a diff yarn than the pattern called for, how much did you use and did you cast on a diff amount and use a diff knitting needle size???

    1. Anna says:

Hey Donna! I used the same needle and stitches as written in the pattern. 🙂
