bag of the month club

Wanna have a little surprise sewing action in the new year?  Do you like to make bags and clutches and all that good stuff? Good!  Sara from Sew Sweetness came up with this lovely idea of doing a Bag of the Month Club and  I joined in as one of the designers.

So the whole scoop is that there will be 6 brand new designs for you to sew starting in January.  Each month a new pattern will be delivered to your inbox.  Fun, right?

Here’s the fun group making the designs:
January: Sara Lawson of Sew Sweetness
February: Janelle of Emmaline Bags
March: Samantha from Sewing Patterns with Mrs. H
April: Betz from Betz White
May: me!!!
June: Chris of Chris W. Designs

Membership is $40 but if you sign up during the month of December, you’ll get the early-bird discount!

I’m excited!  I have a few ideas in mind for my pattern.  However, if you have something you’ve just been waiting for and wanting, let me know and I just might be able to incorporate it into my pattern.

  1. What I really want for a bag pattern and I can’t find it anywhere, is a messenger bag with a zipper closure underneath the flap.. I love wearing messenger bags, but only the flap is not enough to keep my things inside…

Oh how fun! That’s the gift that keeps on giving the whole year through…

As far as ideas…I like the messenger bag idea above, maybe in different sizes that you could make “manly” like a Timbuk2 or something, or a simple hobo purse that you could dress up or down based on the materials (I have a really simple coach bag I have used for years that I love). I’m thinking bags that look great in canvas/leather/duck, ya know? Into those these days.

Oooh what a great idea!! I just signed up 🙂 No particular requests, but my favorite bag ever is your super tote! I love outside pockets, and zip closures, but not flaps LOL!

I’m already signed up. For bags it’s fun to have options. Like a style with instructions for a few different closures. My 2nd wish is for binding, I haven’t done it on a bag yet, but the look is so cool even on a casual bag.

Messenger bag….for a laptop. And or pocket for tablet. Pockets galore….exterior back. Etc.

I’ve been looking for a bag with handles that can lengthen to accommodate across the body wear since I have a very bad back. Secondly, it has to have a lot of really good pockets inside & at least one outside, & one of the pockets should close, preferably with a zipper. I much prefer an open top that just closes with just a magnet snap. The reason for that, & for needing so many pockets is that I need to get in & out of it with one hand, without needing to look inside. The cross body bag stays on while I’ve got to switch my cane to the other hand so I can get my hand down into my purse & get what I need, unlike almost all other bags. The magnet clasp keeps most everything in if the purse spills, especially the important stuff like your wallet, but it’s also easy enough to slip a hand through & pop the magnet open one handed to get to things. Then the pockets will have everything nicely organized so things aren’t a jumble & I can get what I need by touch most of the time. You could even allow for the option to have the buyers make the pockets to their own size specifications, at least in width, to fit their personal needs. Every purse I make for myself I make sure I have pockets that are the right sizes for my cell phone, a prescription bottle, a small pad of paper, a small container of tums, & then a couple others for pens & other miscellaneous stuff. An option to either follow the written pattern’s instructions for inner pockets or for how to make your own widths would be absolutely great (it’s really not that hard). I hope I’m explaining this right. I’m probably over explaining as I usually do though. Lol. Oh heck, one more thing too. This purse can’t be huge either or it’s got to at least have an option to keep it at a lower medium size since weight is a factor for my aching back.
I also like the messenger bag idea listed above.
And in my ultimate ideal world, between all of you, you guys would do these 2 & something that could be a nice baby bag/large tote. I’ve got my first grandchild on the way. 😀 I’m signing up as soon as I get paid. Thank you guys a bunch!!!

I’m really excited about bag of the month, I just signed up. I have all your bag patterns I;m hoping there’s something on the smaller size ( or one that contains optional sizing depending on what scale you print the pattern ) With an outside cell phone pocket, and inside room,,,,, for keys, and my Kindle , small wallet and a sock project bag 🙂 so it would be great if it had a flat bottom
