DIY chalk cloth table topper

Well, this one has a long story behind it, but I’ll keep it short.

I had to try sewing with some chalk cloth a long time ago.  Perfect table topper for our play table.

 How to:
1.  Lay down chalk cloth right side up, lay table top down on top of it.
2.  Trace with chalk around your table.
3.  Cut out.
4.  Prime the chalk cloth by rubbing chalk all over it and wiping off.
5.  Sew 1/2″ double fold bias tape around edge using a denim needle (the chalk cloth is pretty thick).
6. Done!

It’s really been nice having it, the topper doubles as a table cloth and protects the table.  And what kid (or adult) doesn’t love chalk?  I do!

Oh that’s a great idea! We have an ikea table that’s just always covered in crayon marks. Maybe we should get rid of the crayons and just go with chalk!

thank you for sharing, I find this sooner. This point is very interesting: It’s really been nice having it, the topper doubles as a table cloth and protects the table. And what kid (or adult) doesn’t love chalk? I do!

how cool is that! It would be something for my little one, too. Unfortunately I never heard of chalk cloth in Germany and don’t know where to buy it. But I will keep my eyes open.

  24. i love this idea! i have some of that fabric and i have failed at finding a good use for it so far. i don’t think i have enough yardage to cover the table, but a good placemat should do for one little guy 🙂
