I’ll just start out by saying that this is the worst fabric I’ve ever purchased. It feels like a cross between a dryer sheet and static-y polyester. I had pre-washed it and dried it, so I though it was going to be okay, haha. Once I started cutting the pieces it was super fraying. Yuck. Don’t worry, I know it was my own choice, I was drawn in by the $3 a yard price tag and that it sort of reminded me of a Nani Iro print, but the similarities ended there.
I chugged through it, too stubborn to stop. Even the size 9 needle (which is pretty darn small) tore small holes as I tried to backstitch.
So here’s the finished top, I love the pattern (by Wiksten, no doubt you’ve seen it made by just about everyone). Tried doing short sleeves which is really nice for summer. I had originally wanted to do some gathers and a bound hem on it, but forgot to add any extra room for the gathers, so I ended up simply hemming the sleeves after I shortened them.
So that’s about all for now. Hope you have a great rest of the week! I’m working on a couple patterns right now, crazy, since I usually like to stick to one thing at a time. Just too excited about them both right now and figured I’d better get going before I lose my momentum. ♥
Haha, loving your comparison to dryer sheets here! Well, for all that, it looks great on you. Way to stick with it!
Oh, that is too bad, because you’ll never wear it, and it is so pretty. I can see why you were taken in by the fabric — it is really gorgeous.
Dryer sheet hmmm that sounds very comfy 😉 It looks great with the short sleeves though!
It looks so pretty! Bummer on the dryer sheet texture 🙂 Hope you had a good 4th!!
Haha, your first sentence cracked me up! Your finished shirt looks great though, even if it feels horrible!
oh! too bad because I was taken by the SAME fabric for $3 and thought I’d eventually make a wiksten tank out of it! lame. Regardless, it’s lovely on you 🙂
I love your necklace-would you share where you found it?
Oh my! This looks great on you and do like the short sleves for the summer….Judith, Texas
ugh I hate when cute prints turn out to be crap fabric! It is a really cute print though and looks great on you Anna!
Well done for battling through, I might have either thrown it out or thrown a temper tantrum long before the end lol
That’s too bad about the fabric. I’ve been there a lot of times. I do like the sleeves though. 🙂
That stinks that the fabric texture is weird as it’s a really cute print and a great pattern.
It’s really pretty, though! Good job sticking with it!
It is still love lovely! Good for you not giving up! I have the pattern and my fabric and have been staring at it for a month. I think you just gave me the nudge I needed 🙂
I feel your pain regarding the fabric – its so annoying when you want to use something badly but it’s a pig to work with. I made a cap sleeved Tova recently and am really happy with it. I’m sure you’ll find yours useful.
Yeah this is one of those situations where the blog doesn’t give a good sense of the true nature of it, because it LOOKS great! I like the sleeves as you did them. That pattern is waiting for me as soon as I get through my month of guest posts! Maybe make another in nice fabric now that you know it fits well? I’m sure it’d go a lot faster. 😉
I just tried to sew with the same fabric and gave up 3/4 of the way through a shirt. . . .I agree, worst fabric ever. Kudos for finishing it, it looks really cute!
bummer about the itchy fabric but i am so excited to see what you have in the works pattern wise!
Ugh, I hate when stuff like that happens. The top looks cute, though!
How did the sizing work out for you? The first time I tried to make this top, I cut an XS. It should have fit based on my measurements but I barely even get it over my head!! (And of course I cut into some Nani Iro double gauze without making a muslin…..so now Addy has a tunic!)
Excited for new patterns. Would love to help test if needed
Ooh, love it. Looks like you had better luck than me on the sewing but less so on fabric choice! Ah well. Can’t win them all eh? Looking forward to seeing your lovely upcomings x
feeling/usability aside, it looks awesome! 🙂
Well, it looks great! Maybe it will soften up with washes…Excited for your new patterns!
i really love it even though it was a pain for you! the fabric is super pretty and i bet it will soften up with a few washes. i love the shortened sleeves though. love them!
and dearie, i am super excited for your new patterns. if you need help testing, you let me know! i will gladly offer my meager services!
It looks really great although you had a hard time!
cute print, and I just love the imagery you described…that it was like a dryer sheet. totally get that! 🙂
