Coming Soon – Explorer Tote!

Coming Soon - Explorer Tote! - Noodlehead

Hello there! I thought I would pop in quick to let you know I have a new pattern coming out in a few days. It’s called the Explorer Tote and I hope you’ll love it as much as I do. It’s been a work in progress for so long that I am grateful to finally let it out into this world. It comes in two sizes (this one is the large) and is loaded with great features that I can’t wait to tell you more about and show you!

My family helped me out in a big way to get these wintry pictures. It took some serious dedication, but was super fun at the same time. We hiked up to a great little spot where we do a lot of mountain biking and hiking in the non-snowy months. I have yet to get up there though with my fat tire bike. Anyway, this winter day was pretty mild compared to the temps we’ve been having, so I’m very thankful the weather cooperated.

I’ll see you back here at the end of the week with the pattern! Thank you so much for all your enthusiasm and support.

I love this! I’m curious about sewing the leather handles into the seam allowance – is there a tutorial somewhere I missed that covers how to make that as secure as possible? My very first zip top tote had rather thin leather straps which have stretched out over time. All other ones I have made with leather straps, I attach them with rivets. I feel that would detract from the overall look of this new bag style, so I am curious as to what I should do. Thanks!

Thanks Nicole. I don’t have a specific tutorial that would talk about sewing them into a seam, but mine are triple stitched in the seam of this tote. As I’ve used my own leather handles for bags I’ve made in the past they have held up extremely well. However, I can only comment on the particular leather I use and carry, so if you’re using one that is thin and stretches over time I probably wouldn’t suggest using it for handles sewn into a seam. Does that make sense? This new pattern does include instructions for fabric handles, but for this sample I swapped out for the leather handles from my shop. Also, I don’t think attaching them with rivets on this particular pattern would detract at all, but it’s up to you. 🙂

  4. I love this! Looking forward to making one, I have some serious airport/travel/overseas move time coming up this Spring and this would be perfect!
