Bethioua Raglan Shirt in Yarn Dye

Bethioua Raglan Shirt sewn by Anna Graham

I’m so excited about making this knit raglan shirt! I had purchased the yarn dyed jersey knit from Fancy Tiger Crafts without a pattern in mind, but it was such a pretty fabric I couldn’t pass it up. The Bethioua Raglan Shirt was a pattern I purchased as part of IndieSew‘s Mini Winter Collection. I love how easy Allie makes it to put together a great look without having to scour the internets until all hours of the night (even though admittedly I like doing that, too). I also like the fact that she sews every pattern. It makes me feel really confident in purchasing any pattern from her shop. She even started sourcing great garment fabrics to go with the patterns. I think she must work 24 hours a day. 😉

Anyway, I was excited to match up the Bethioua with the knit and come away with this top that will certainly get worn a ton. It was soooo lightning fast to sew (even assembling the pattern pieces was pretty quick as there are only three pattern pieces – front, back, and sleeve). The cuff and neckband are given as measurements which was super awesome and easy to cut quickly with my rotary cutter and ruler.

I also re-threaded my serger with cones of black and gray thread! I hardly ever switch from my white cones, but I knew this fabric needed darker thread colors. It’s so worth it for the few minutes of aggravation it causes. Maybe I’ll seriously consider one of the self-threading sergers one of these days. I did manage to make the hem a bit wavy, but I think after washing it’ll calm back down.

The thing I love most about this pattern might be the way the sleeves wrap around the back. Looove that! It adds such a fun detail. Along with the shoulder darts it makes for such a nice fit. I’m excited to try a few more versions now that I know how quick and comfy it is!

I’ve never sewn for myself before (mostly non-clothing with the occasional thing for my daughter), but I think this should be my first foray. Love the back seams! Thanks for sharing.

wonderful work as always! May I ask where you bought your mirror? I’m looking for something like that for our entry way. Thanks!!

Thanks Katie! I got the mirror at an antique store. I know they have round mirrors at Ikea and West Elm though!

Hi, I just stumbled upon this blog post and would like to purchase this top pattern. But every link I try to get the pattern is broken. Has she gone out of business? I would really like this pattern for the Bethiouda Raglan top.
    Thanks for your help
    Julie

      Hi Julie,
I’m not sure which links you’re using, I checked them and they’re okay on my end, maybe just a glitch? Here’s the link to the shop listing: https://indiesew.com/products/elle-puls-bethioua

There is a short cut to rethreading a serger. Tie the new thread to the old with a tight knot. All tension dials to zero and then pull the threads through gently and slowly. Remember to fix the tension before sewing.
It works a treat on my Bernina, not sure for other brands.

  11. That looks super comfy! I’ll have to add it to my list of possibilities 🙂 I think it would look good with the back in a contrasting fabric.

Oh that’s a cool design; love the back detail. It looks really good on you! Way to change that serger thread. 😉
