Black + Denim Poolside Tote

Coming up with different fabrics combinations using my patterns is one of my favorite things to do. Often times I only make a pile of fabrics and not the actual project (sometimes that’s enough to satisfy some curiosity, sometimes not). I love seeing what others make too, sewing is so great in that way. Plus it’s fun to be able to combine handmade projects to really let your style shine through.

So that’s where Indiesew comes in. I’m excited about the collections they put together each season. It’s fun to see a complete package of sewing projects combined in a fun way. This summer collection is really awesome – a top, pants, a swim suit, dress, and even my poolside tote.

Little by little I’m inching my way closer to feeling successful every time I sew something for myself to wear. A lot of times in the past I’ve made something just because, or picked a fabric I really wouldn’t normally feel comfortable wearing, but in the past year or so I’ve begun to be more selective about what I spend my time making. And I think that has translated well to my closet. Bags are a whole other story though – obviously I don’t have a problem making ones I like.

I loved using this Japanese linen blend (purchased from Miss Matatabi) for my Poolside Tote, and couldn’t resist lining it with denim. Because I didn’t want to quilt this tote (see here for a quilted version) I opted for my suggested ByAnnie’s Soft and Stable stabilizer option. I do really like using it for a non-quilted version of this pattern.

Hi Anna! I just got your book today (in FRANCE!!). I’m so impressed with the projects you’ve put together–I own just about every craft book printed and yours is truly one I will use…not just look at. Perhaps it’s because your style suits mine so well, perhaps you just have fantastic ideas, or both? I can’t wait to see/get some of your fabrics. I’d love to get some suggestions for interfacing as I don’t think the byAnnies is here in france (maybe I’m wrong though)….

Best of luck with all your new projects…it’s so great to see you spreading your wings!!
    xoxo

We all have our specialities within our craft, eh? Always felt like mine was kid clothes but the more I practice at clothes for me, the more comfortable I feel with it – fabric selection is the hardest part! You are SOOOOOOO good at that with bags and home dec stuff, for sure. You’re an expert! And dude, my book finally came in the mail and I’m in love with it!! Beautiful.

Beautiful bag! You paired that fabric beautifully. I have loved seeing all of these Poolside Totes. Such a cute, functional bag.

Also just to note, we are working on becoming a vendor on Amazon, but the Annie on Amazon hyperlink is not me. 🙂
