Poolside Tote Pattern

Hi friends! It’s here finally. My newest pattern the Poolside Tote is ready for all your summer sewing adventures.

As you might already know, this tote was part of the Bag of the Month club. So the lucky members of the club have already had their patterns for a bit and it’s been fun to see them popping up in the flickr group!

Special features of this tote:

  • it’s roomy! I can fit 4 beach towels and more in mine!
  • two pocket options, zippered closure or a slip pocket (or you could do both – one on each side)
  • fun accents to show off your favorite quilting cotton prints
  • key loop

Notes on interfacing: I give several options for interfacing choices depending on what fabrics you’re using and what type of bag you like. Heavy weight fabrics with interfacing, Soft & Stable, or batting/cotton canvas are a few of the combinations you can choose from. There is more information and details on selection included in the pattern. * Materials needed: + Requirements based on 44” wide fabric.

  • Accent fabric (facing) 1/2 yard

Finished Dimensions: 7.5” D x 14.5” W across base, 14.5” tall, 23.5” including handle By purchasing this pattern, I also give you (the purchaser of this pattern) the rights to sell Poolside Totes made using this pattern (on a home based scale). Hi, I’m intending to make a beach bag and have been dithering between this pattern and the super tote. Do you have any photos of them next to each other for comparison purposes? Thanks so much, I love your patterns!

    1. Anna says:

Yes! My friend Darcy took a picture of the two of them together: http://www.moderncozy.com/2014/05/pattern-review-poolside-tote.html
      Hope that helps! 🙂

I need to make like a million of those. One reason to go and buy new fabric! Thank you Anna! I’m so lucky this is a PDF and not a paper pattern, that way I can start sewing tomorrow even though I live in Europe. Hugs! Mara

Love this pattern, it’s the perfect size for taking to my daughter’s swimming lessons! All of your patterns rock – I can’t tell you how many Go Anywhere bags and 241 totes I’ve made! This looks like another great one to add to my pattern collection.

  8. Leslie says:

i love this bag….ive never made something this intricate before but i think i can give it a try!!! i might cry my way through it, but i need this bag…lol

    1. Jake says:

Lesli, you won’t be disappointed with Annas instructions! Her patterns are among THE BEST and easiest to follow! And, if you do run in to any issues, just email her directly and she will respond promptly! When I was brand new, hers was my FIRST pattern and some terminology I was unfamiliar with baffled me…I emailed and she responded within minutes! She has tons if photos to help. You CAN do it!

    2. Here, here. Anna’s patterns are really clear to follow, and she’s very helpful if you need to e mail her any questions.

  9. Great pattern. Can you name the pink bird fabric? It’s absolutely perfect for this bag.

    1. Anna says:

Yes, I got it from Miss Matatabi on etsy! You can read more about that tote here:

I have been waiting for this! So glad you let us in the in-crowd!

  11. It’s amazing how the same pattern can make such different looking bags. I think my favourite combination above is a large print fabric as the main fabric, with solid coloured handles.

  12. Jeni says:

Happy day! Can’t wait to dig through my stash for this one! 🙂

  13. Aless says:

Wow, Anna! This is the fastest I have ever bought on-line! I am ready to sew another swimming bag for my adult daughter as a present, and this bag beats every idea I’d had to date. Just lovely, and so stylish. She’s going to love it!!

  14. Sue Moore says:

This is the best bag! I’ve made a heap of them to take to the farmers market for my fruit & vege. Thanks

  15. I had been anxiously waiting for you to make this pattern available and was hoping you would on the first. yeiiiii!!! It is pretty cool! I love all your patterns! I love your work.

  17. myrtovl says:

Have you ever thought of selling your patterns on Craftsy? It is very convenient as they keep it in our accounts for easy downloading when needed and on any device i.e. I-pad etc.

  18. GwenDee says:

Well I downloaded my pattern. Will make a set for an upcoming trip to Nevada.

  19. Sophie says:

I love this so much. Would look amazing in sooo many Nani Iro fabrics!

  20. I love this SO much Anna! I can’t wait to make this!

  21. Kathi says:

Help! How can I make this with regular quilting quality cotton and have it sturdy enough – I’m thinking a layer of canvas in the middle and SF101 fused to the lining? Any thought? I don’t want to quilt it.

    1. Anna Graham says:

Thanks for your comment. Those would work, you could also use Soft and Stable instead of the canvas, depends what type of bag you’d like, canvas would make it durable but still be floppy/packable whereas soft and stable would make it structured. The pattern lists a few different interfacing combinations as well. 🙂

  22. Patricia Weaver says:
