sewing with knits

black + white plantain

The Plantain t-shirt pattern (a free pattern from Deer & Doe) had been sitting on a chair in my sewing space and I decided it needed to get done!

I definitely am like my girls in that I reach for the coziest knit garment each time I open my closet. I had this stripe knit laying around and didn’t have a problem cutting into it.  It’s not the nicest knit, it’s actually a little scratchy, but I’m hoping once I wash it again some of that will go away.

I rummaged through my hoarded scraps bin and dug out this happy little piece of Liberty and knew they’d make a nice elbow patch. I love the shape of this tee! I’ll definitely make more. A simple change I made was to the neckline.  I almost always make the neckline higher on my tops, just because I feel more comfortable that way. I used an existing tee to find just the right spot for me.  I also made the hem lower in the back, I like the way it falls and when you bend over, you’re sure to keep covered!

Pattern: Plantain by Deer & Doe
Fabric: mystery knit from Hancock Fabrics and a few scraps of Liberty

Hope you have a gorgeous weekend! ♥

I made this in a black and white stripe too but my stripes are wider. This pattern is fabulous and I think I might make it into a dress next for a nice fall dress. Cute!

Lovely! I will check out this pattern. I just made the Tonic T from SBCC (also a free T shirt pattern). It has a scoop neck which turned out not perfect. Sad face. What did you use for your neckband?
