Datura Blouse: Linen

Finally sewed something for myself, it’s been a while!  Not to sound like a broken record, but I believe I’ve had this pattern traced and pattern pieces cut for at least 4 months.  At one point I got sick of all the clutter lying around and just put it all away.  So I needed to sew something, anything the other night.  I pulled out the Datura Blouse pattern by Deer & Doe.

And did you see the back.  Party in the back!  Love the button detail so much.

Let me tell you how much I love this pattern.  Firstly, it’s so beautifully packaged (I’m a sucker for great packaging).  Secondly, the directions are just enough, definitely not too complicated where you have to stare at them and scratch your head.  Thirdly, the fit!!! woah, I never expected the fit to be so great.  Of course if you make one yourself you might not be so lucky (you know, we all have different body shapes), but I’m just in awe.  Thank you Deer & Doe!

If I look slightly mad in this pic it’s because my memory card kept saying it was full when it wasn’t, ha.

I wasn’t originally going to use this berry colored linen.  So glad I did though, so soft and flowy.  I’m pretty much done done sewing myself any type of top with quilting cotton, like ever.  I will definitely be able to wear this to work, which is super awesome.  Plus the cut outs (which I didn’t really think I’d make use of) are a super cute detail and suits the fabric well.

Well, there you have it.  And I’m in love.

Pattern: Datura Blouse // Deer & Doe
Size: 38
Modifications: added about 2″ to the overall length, I have a long torso and short tops are my pet peeve

wow soooooo cute Anna! I really want to try a Deer & Doe pattern, but I’m so nervous because I’m weird shaped. I just need to suck it up though.

  5. What a cute top! I love the color of your fabric! I have this pattern sitting in my pattern stash (apparently I’ve been buying lots of patterns lately without actually having the time to make them)and this just got me motivated to sew it up!

Beautiful!! The color and fit looks great on you 🙂 Now that I’ve discovered rayon challis, I may sew something for myself. I can’t wear stuff like quilting cotton.

That is just lovely! I especially like the cut-outs on the neck, really adds a lot without being *too much* you know?

  8. Nicky says:

Great make – agreed on short tops – so hate too much hanging out ! Great to be able to make them longer to fit!

I just finished up one of these for myself. I like the look of the linen and will likely choose a lighter weight fabric for my next … Mine was a stretch poplin& it’s slightly stiffer than I’d like it to be. The linen looks great and boy you did a nice job on the darts. <3

This is gorgeous! And it looks so perfect on you! I love the detail along the neck.

You did a great job sewing and pressing the linen top. The button and cut out details adds whimsy to an otherwise sophisticated top. My favorite feature may be the hem on the bottom is long in the front and back and shorter on the sides, and the armpit area does not gap and show bra.

Ah it’s so lovely in linen!! Would be perfect with a cardigan on cooler fall days, too. I need this pattern!

  20. Ann says:

Love the details front and back on this pattern!

  21. Jenny says:

That is beautiful!! The berry linen is gorgeous. I am piecing a quilt with their all-purpose linen right now, that stuff is stretching and sliding all over the place. But yours looks well under control. Gorgeous!

  22. Tamie says:

What a beautiful top and it fits you like a glove.

a lovely top, the detail on th next line could not have been easy but you got it spot on. Like the back too with all the buttons. Never make clothes now, suppose I should as I have a stash of fabrics but being elderly do not need much in the way of clothes and I am still wearing things bought as long ago as the 1980`s!!!

  34. Poppyprint says:

That top, and that top on YOU, are equally gorgeous!!! Well done!

  35. No matter how many times I see this top I never tire of it. The colour is just perfect and I love it in linen.

  36. Becky says:

lovely! i actually have a short torso and also have to stay away from tops that are shorter because it just accentuates it even more and leaves me looking un-balanced. i always buy longer tops because that balances me out. it makes sense, though, that a person with a long torso does not want that accentuated either/tummy showing. i love the berry color of your top. glad to hear i am not the only one who cuts patterns and puts them away for months at a time. 🙂

  37. Becky says:

btw i am loving your super tote pattern! it was the first pdf pattern i have purchased and i am really thankful i have it. i have made 2 of them for myself. basically b/c i am new to sewing and had to learn a lot while sewing the first 2. now, i am on my 3rd super tote and it will be a gift to a friend. 🙂
