Sewing

lizzy house is in my house!

Well, Lizzy isn’t actually here, just her fabric.  I wish though.  Have you seen her praying mantis named Juniper?

I bought Outfoxed Leaf Stripe in Orange a while back to make a shower curtain.  I couldn’t muster up the nerve to figure out how I was going to cut up almost 5 yards of fabric.  It was silly really, when I look back.   I just used my existing shower curtain for a guide, except for the length.  My old curtain shrunk in such a huge way in the wash (even though I’m pretty sure I washed it on cold).  Normally I wouldn’t wash such a thing very much, but you know, my kids thought it was just great that the shower curtain hangs right next to the sink – perfect surface for wiping their hands ALL OVER!  I had even mounted a little kid height friendly hook to hang their very own hand towel on, but it wasn’t in time I guess.

So the shower curtain had to go.  Which also meant the paint, wall art, and fabric buckets had to go, too.  I love changing things up, this bathroom had the same curtain/paint for about 6 years, definitely time to move on.  You can see pics of the bathroom before here.

I just matched the pattern and used a turn and stitch seam? (I think!, actually this example has more clear shots) to join the fabric making it wide enough for the shower opening.  I also used a little Pellon SF101 interfacing at the top hem where the button holes are.

I used the same paint color as my bedroom (since the bathroom is mostly tile, it just needed a little bit of paint).  I’m really happy to walk by the bathroom now, it’s kind of a nice surprise!  Now to figure out what to hang on the wall and maybe some sewing to make a little organizer for the back of the toilet.

Looks great! Sadly, I can’t tell WTH is going on in the critical portion of that tutorial. Could be the fabric choice or something. Kudos to you for being able to figure it out.

So, so pretty! And the perfect time for some inspiration – some time over the next couple of weeks we’re planning on changing things up in our bathroom since it’s due (well, over due) for a paint job. Unfortunately, I’m the most indecisive person known to human-kind!
