I finally, finally, finished up my t-shirt quilt over the weekend. Talk about a project! This was the most difficulty I had completing a sewing project ever. I knew I wanted to finish it though, only five years or so after I started it. You can read my other posts about it here and here.
I chose to do random line quilting, nothing very dense, just to keep things together.
So glad it’s all done now, my favorite blanket by far. After I got it from the dryer I immediately scooped it up and cuddled under it.
oh and I love the back, I picked two black and white ginghams (one 1/8″ the other is a 1″)!
I love it!!! I definitely need to do something similar with all my old college t-shirts that I never wear anymore.
Thanks for sharing – have fun cuddling up under it this fall and winter!

OMGosh… i don’t know what i’m more jealous of! the quilt or that you saved all that goodness to make that quilt knowing i DIDN’T! LOL

Woo hoo! It’s so awesome! I really like the quilting!
I need to make one of these too! I’ve been saving Cleveland Cavs tshirts for years in preparation! đ
is it much more difficult sewing tshirts vs. regular quilting cotton? I am thinking about making my girl one of these with her baby clothing for when she moves out (as in 17 years at the earliest lol)
I gotta make me one of these.. I have so many T-shirts that I don’t wear but don’t want to throw/give away either… this is the perfect project!
I L-O-V-E LOVE my T-shirt quilts! They’re perfect for anything, picnics, cuddling, napping, whatever! Super cute!
i made a blanket for my sister with all of her kids’ baby clothes so i know what a difficult project this is!
congrats on finishing it!

muy original y lindo.
muy original y lindo.
How cool is that!! All those memories quilted up together! A treasure for sure!
So very fun! Congrats on finally getting it finished and off of your to do list. I love, love, love the gingham on the back! Especially how you used two different sizes!
Well worth finishing! My second ever quilt was a t shirt quilt for my son, not brilliantly made but a favourite still.
I love it! Looks so snuggly and I adore the black/white check. My fave print ever! Bet that feels good to be crossed off the sewing list!!
I bet it is so cozy. It is lovely. The gingham you chose for the back is great!
congratulations! it looks awesome, so snuggly, and it must feel fantastic to be done with such a long WIP.
Love this idea and quilt. What a great way to save those memories.

This turned out wonderful! Both my husband and I have tons of special t’s we have held on to for years. I want to do this with them, but I have never quilted. Maybe one of these days I will get around to it.
I love the way you stitched yours! I was crazy enough to have a t-shirt quilt be my first quilt and let’s just say it took awhile for me to have the desire to try another. Mine can be found here:

I think next time I’ll be avoiding the denim and sticking with your cotton method!
I really don’t want my husband to see this post because I am sure that he has never heard of a tshirt quilt but he has a bag marked “sentimental tshirts” up in the attic and I don’t want him to get any ideas! I know that it would be a tricky project working with all those knits. Congratulations on finishing it up!
It turned out great!!!
What a perfect quilt for a teen boy. Will have to pin this for the future.
Neato! I’m actually headed to La Crosse/La Crescent this weekend to see my Grandfather – funny to see those towns listed on your quilt. This gives me a great idea for my husband’s old shirts. Nice job!
It turned out great! I can tell how cuddly it is just through the pictures. Is that an extra pair of legs in the second pic? Made me giggle…my kids are always hopping into photos like this, too.

I love it too. It looks incredibly comfy. đ
Way to go! It’s so great to finish up a long-lasting project. Looks like a lot of great memories in that quilt.
It’s cute and i love it has all these memories for you! Eva-marie
i love how soft old tshirts are. i bet that quilt is super cozy.
Gorgeous! I have put off t shirt quilts too. I love your random line quilting- may have to try that on my next one đ
Yay! It looks great, I love the straight line quilting!
Wow, it turned out great!!!
It looks so comfy! I should probably start one with Jeremy’s old shirts…he still wears them even with all the rips and holes đ ha ha ha.
I love the quilting! I am about to quilt a tee shirt quilt for a friend and I think I will do something similarly simple! But hers is much bigger and is going to take a long time!
I love the idea of these quilts, though I don’t wear tshirts with logos and hence have none to use! I don’t know if you read Sweet Juniper Woodcraft at all, but she did one like this a couple years ago for her mother using her step-father’s shirts after he had recently died. I thought it was lovely to say the least.
Five year, smive years….it was worth it!
Love how it came out, especially the mixed gingham back
Oh, it looks great! Love the mixed gingham back.
Cheers,
Robyn
Congrats!! That is so cool!!

totally awesome!!!!
Anna, this is awesome!! I would love to make one for my daughter. I hate to ask but how did you do it? I’m not asking for a tutorial but I would think working with t-shirts would be pretty tricky. Nice time to finish it with fall around the corner. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!:)
Google is acting up!

Awesome work! And as I’m reading all the shirts, I realized you’re from Wisconsin – I completely forgot that fact! Great, great work.

I was just looking through a bag of Olivia’s baby clothes… knowing that someday I’ll be making a quilt with those cloths, but I’m too chicken to start cutting into that stuff today. Congratulations on finishing your quilt, it looks sooo comfy indeed! xo amy
That looks SO cozy! Must be so nice to wrap up in all your old shirts!
It turned out great and looks so comfy. It is inspiring to think that you really can get a tshirt quilt done that has been on the to do list for awhile. I have the tshirts all ready to go and have had them ready to go for a few years. Maybe this is the year for mine!
Ok, so I just joined your blog and I can’t tell you what excites me more… your totally cool ideas or the fact that you have a shirt quilt with shirts from UW LaCrosse. LaCrosse, WI is still one of my favorite haunts along with Winona, Red Wing, Alma, Stockholm and plenty of other river towns.
Thank you so much! What a fun quilt! I have a similar idea for the future! I have featured you on our blog fav this week at http://www.ourlittlegems.com
Thanks again!
It turned out so beautifully
Yay! It turned out so fabulous hun! I love it!!!
Love it ! I have been collecting my boys t-shirts for a while now, and this has been on my to-do for ages. Its great to see how good the finished project can turn out. Thanks for all the tips too, nice to have them before I start. x
