sewing is great

A few days ago I made a lovely little stack of diaper keepers.  I really wasn’t going to blog about it because I’ve made some before and of course I also made my own version with my diaper pouch tutorial a couple times, too:

But when as I was making them it made me realize that I can take a few scraps of fabric, sew them together, and make something that will be useful to 5 mothers (and possibly the dads too) for a long time to come.  Isn’t that great to think of sewing that way?

Before the fabric was just sitting on my shelf and now it’s a stack of diaper keepers that are so handy for anyone’s diaper bag.  Quick, easy, and fun project, oh and for these I used Diary of a Quilter‘s tutorial here.  Love them!  See?  Sewing doesn’t have to be fancy or artsy or whatever, it can be what you want it to be.  And these are a mom’s necessity in my world.

Fabrics: Amy Butler Lotus, Cloud 9 My Happy Nursery and Cut Out & Keep, Alexander Henry Farmdale
Little wood toy cars blogged here.

I love diaper keepers! I make them for mommy friends as well as have several different ones to go with my purses…maybe I’m a bit nuts, but I cant go without! I absolutely love the fabrics you used! lucky mommas!

That is what I love about sewing too. When I first started sewing I made burp cloths, very simple ones at that. But I was so proud of myself that I sat them on the coffee table and admired my work for days.

Love that all my favorite bloggers love/link each other. 🙂

Those are wonderful! I was just thinking how nice it would be to have a manly looking version for hubby to take with him when he makes a quick jaunt with our daughter (our diaper bag is a wee bit feminine!). I think I’m adding this project to my list!

  9. Those are adorable! I have yet to make any and am in the midst of diapering.

I love those little wooden cars, too, cute 🙂

I seriously love looking at your blog- it is really inspiring- thanks for all that you share here!

I completely agree – sometimes it’s the simplest things that we make that we can’t live without (like my super-ugly yet super-comfy fleece pajama pants that I made…man, I would live in those things if I could!)

  12. How nice to find your lovely blog (via Very Kerry Berry). I always know I have found someone I want to add to Google reader when I see my favourite fabrics (Farmdale and Cut Out and Keep especially!)in their pics. And what a lovely idea too.

Amen to that! Sewing is the best. I love how you can turn a pretty much useless (but pretty) sheet of fabric into something that is used and loved in very little time. AND we can make things just how we want them! It’s a great skill to have – creative AND practical. 🙂

With four kids I am ALWAYS the mama with diapers, wipes and bandaids. I never leave home without them, ever. I have soothed many a scraped knee and wiped many chocolate mouths in the past seven years with my trusty diaper pouch.

Sometimes we get caught up in the big projects and forget about the simple stuff. I love these. I’m waiting for friends of mine to have babies so I can make diaper keepers and Baprons! Come on people! I need to make little baby projects. get working.
