Starting point…

Usually I’m a pretty indecisive person when it comes to ‘decorating’ my house.  Maybe that’s why my house is largely undecorated (besides the family photos and some of my old college intaglio prints).  So I thought I’d use some fun artwork for my starting point in my sewing room/ play room redo.

I came across these cute prints from Printspace on etsy and just couldn’t stop thinking about them.  I love the Thoreau quote on the one “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams live the life you’ve imagined.”
I’m totally a quote person – love reading quotes and love being inspired by them.

After ordering the prints, I jumped into paint swatches.  I’m not good at picking out paint, I’ve already painted this space twice in the past with lack luster results.  I think it’s hard trying to find paints that go with the age of the house (built in 1950) and it’s woodwork.  How I wish I had white trim, somehow I think that would make things easier.  Anyway…

Here’s what’s up now:

If random people you don’t know count for votes, my vote is for the blue! 🙂 I had a room that colour when I was growing up and I loved it! And you could accent with the green and orange! Plus I adore those prints.

Also if you love quotes, when i was in college, I had no money for art – so i printed out a ton of my favourite quotes in different fonts and colours, then I mounted them on a piece of cardboard and framed it in a cheap IKEA frame. I still have it to this day in my craft room – its all was there for inspiration and uplifting thoughts. 🙂

fun colors…which one are you going to choose? the art is beautiful. the quote is amazing

I am the same way about decorating. For some reason it just seems so PERMANENT to me — which makes the decision harder somehow. Ridiculous. I can change it whenever I want, right??

KUDOS for making some decisions and taking the plunge!

P.S. I like the darker green!

I am with you on the decorating part! I’ve tried picking up art first, but I ended up with black and white, lol.

If you are taking votes, I love the dark green.

I am the same way! We have lived here for 3 years and I am only now finally committed to decorating it. I can never seem to hang up pictures. it seems to permanant. Silly.

I love the green! It looks great with the woodwork (which i’m jealous of by the way) and your daughters purples and pinks will really pop! The pictures are so fun!

i love the green that’s right next to your trim, good luck! i have the hardest time picking colors too!

Love the prints and love the blue!!

    Blue or light orange.
And I love your artwork (and blog)!

I love the artwork! And all of your paint swatches look great. I’m partial to the blue, I think the artwork would pop out best on it 😉 but it looks like with those colors whatever you choose will turn out darling!

Cute, cute, cute! I like the green, but the blue or orange would be bright and invigorating I think…depends what kind of mood you want 🙂 Can’t wait to see the finished product!

I like the greens, but is there some way you could combine three colours into one room? Also, you could always prime your trim and paint it white just for this room.

We have wooden trim as well, they’re hard to work with because they’re so dark but can’t bring myself to paint them! We have one sunny room with blue wallpaper that looks lovely, and my daughter’s darker room is painted a green in between those two you have (as far as one can tell from a computer monitor!). It really really suits the trim although I must admit it doesn’t exactly lighten the room. But it does go beautifully with the wood.

I know this is a bit random but I’m sharing the love and have given you a sunshine award as I love reading your posts and find your blog really inspiring. Not sure if you’ve had one before but just pop over to my blog to get it.

I like the light green (next to the window frame) and the blue. Maybe you could do walls green, ceiling blue like I’ve seen in the mags? Or just one. I’d understand if you didn’t want the trouble of painting a ceiling.

  15. cally says:

blue. go with the blue. it would look great with the dark wood work.

your tee shirts are so cute.
